Here are a few tips I use. Perhaps you can, too.

Set your thermostat to a lower temperature at night. It might be a bit nippy when you make that middle of the night bathroom break, but the warm feeling in your heart will more than compensate for it.
(It doesn’t hurt to wear men’s tube socks, either.)

Sleep your computer. The resultant energy savings can really add up, plus it will prolong the lives of your beloved monitor and CPU.
(Yes, I am really a geek in disguise.)

Use a crock pot instead of simmering on the stove top. Not only will it save a ton of energy, but will also require less work from you. Besides, one-pot meals are extremely delish! (Your dinner guest will think you slaved away all day on their meal.)

Terrific tips, Tinka.

Where’s the Like button for this post?

It’s pretty obvious that facebook is here to stay, and anybody still holding steady to the idea that it’s a passing fad needs to look no further than this development with the Like button to see it’s not going away. I’m talking to you, Mom… just kidding; even she’s on there.

Watching facebook grow ever-bigger makes me wish I’d have put a little more thought into my college projects.

Happy World Graphic Design Day to you, Creative Team! LOL, Meagan, if only I had known, you would have…believe me.

Well, on second thought, I don’t recall partaking in punch and pie last week, but I did share my delish goodies I received from Steve with everyone. Thanks again, Steve!

Note to self: If I ever notice you guys being hush-hush and putting off that same whacky vibe like you all were on Friday, I will definitely KNOW something is up!

You guys were hilarious all morning and kept me in stitches…especially when I was trying to corral everyone into the conference room so we could surprise Bruce.

Thanks for helping me pull it all off, Team! Michael and one80one staff, including Lisa & JT - you all ROCK!

Great blog, Jarad! In addition, thankfully, we are not the typical company with typical employees led by a typical business owner.

I look forward to coming into our offices knowing each day will be an adventure much like the previous day. All of our employees are unique in his/her own way and I believe we make one heck of a dynamic team. While each day is different from the last, two factors are always present: we are productive and we have fun.

Speaking of fun - ping pong is fun when Joe isn’t trying to beat the crap out of me with the ball. And, if Jeremy would remember to bring the nerf guns, we’d be set.

I love this post. The idea of Intelligent Laziness basically breaks down to efficiency and time management, something we pride ourselves on here at one80one.

Can we discuss Intelligent Laziness T-shirts? I vote yes.

Crap. I just got into Gowalla. Hopefully the recent funding they got can help them hang onto a small piece of market. I also have to say, while it’s probably not Gowalla’s goal to remain small, I’m alright with my few friends on there knowing where I am most of the time, but I’m not sure I want everyone on Facebook to know every place I go.

Tinka Betz said on May 13, 2010

I agree with you, Joe. While all of my Facebook friends are people I truly know, not sure how I feel about every single one of them knowing where I am all the time. Can we say…stalkers?! LOL

Caleb Copeland said on May 13, 2010

I’m sure Gowalla will do just fine, it will just make it harder for them to compete with Facebook hogging the limelight. But everyone likes an underdog, so go Gowalla, go!

Another concern about telling people where you are is that you’re also telling them where you’re not… So don’t be Facebook friends with shady people!

Joe Donohue said on May 13, 2010

Sadly, Tinka, I’m not pretty enough to have to worry about stalkers.

I also thought about this a little more, and there are plenty of local places I’d want to support by showing a little love on Facebook. All in all, the new location feature will be a good thing—certainly powerful for businesses. I’ll just use it a little more sparingly than I use Gowalla.

Just read some good news about Gowalla - they have partnered with National Geographic and Washington Post for featured “trip” stories that will integrate Gowalla.

Nicely done, Jessie. I agree with Hurston and with you. I think the need to explore and soak up all I can learn has driven most of my writing and the research that writing demands. As any decent writer knows, thorough research is also the only way to avoid embarrassing mistakes.

Joe, very true—research can make the dim look bright.

Nice post. I agree that research is essential to good writing. Writing without research reduces your available sources to an army of one. Much of my writing has originated out of curiosity…what I consider to be holes in the historical record. I consider it my job to fill the gaps.
